What is the 1,000 Mile Journey?
The 1,000 Mile Journey is a walk for the End of child abuse. So many of us don’t know what to do about this issue, here’s something fun you can do to contribute to the End.
The event is a 1-mile walk with 1,000 people. That’s a lot of people contributing with you. All of us walking one mile is much easier that one of us walking 1000. So it is with Ending child abuse. Every action, big or small, makes a difference.
This fundraising event is an educational opportunity, an occasion to generate media coverage for the end of child abuse, and an opportunity to develop partnerships with other non-profits throughout the state. There will be fun music, speakers, info booths, and fun activities for the kids.
We will have booths for local non-profits to share educational information about the work they are doing locally for the end of child abuse. This is a great way for the service organizations to get more visible in the community and for walkers to get educated about the good work happening so they can get involved with the End at a local, hands on level.
The walk is in it’s third year. In 2010 & 2011 the 1KMJ was held in Madison, WI. In 2012, we are expanding to the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois and held in Clinton, IA as well as having the walk in Madison, WI on September 30th.
