Vision
Our vision is a world free of child abuse.
Mission
Our mission is to build a global conversation for the end of child abuse. We have identified 4 areas of need:
1. Ongoing fundraising that educates, motivates, and makes child abuse a very public conversation, and funds people working for the end of child abuse.
2. Develop powerful relationships with the media to generate an ongoing dialogue for the end of child abuse.
3. Create viable partnerships with people and organizations committed to the end of child abuse.
4. Build leaders around the world who want to create projects that contribute to the end of child abuse.
Founder’s Story
The Rainbird Foundation was born from abuse. My father was a teacher and a convicted pedophile. I don’t know how many children he hurt, but he finally went to prison for his crimes against them. However, he never went to prison for what he did to me, my brother, and sisters. People knew and no one stopped him. For decades, my family has struggled with the damage that comes from child abuse. Some of us have cleaned up the mess and lead productive lives. Some of us haven’t. This is unacceptable to me.
The work to recover from child abuse is as difficult as the abuse, especially when the abusers take no responsibility, which is often the case. Millions of people come from child abuse and many don’t talk about it. This makes recovery nearly impossible, which is why we struggle with many of the issues that plague our communities. But a healthy, productive life is our birthright, and for those who come from abuse, a healthy life can be a monumental undertaking. This is intolerable to me.
The scope of child abuse can seem overwhelming. It can make us feel resigned. That’s why we do nothing. However, doing nothing contributes to the persistence of child abuse. I couldn’t do nothing and let a child endure agonies that we can’t begin to imagine. I do not go a day without doing something for the end of child abuse. I invite you to do the same, whether you do something big or small. Doing anything contributes to the end.
The Rainbird Foundation is committed to the end of child abuse. Please join us.

The Rainbird Foundation’s projects serve communities, service organizations, and our government.
Our first project is The Annual Statistics Program. As far as we can tell, there are currently no national annual statistics for measuring the increase or decrease of child abuse. The best we can do is to collect statistics that are 2 – 3 years old. There are many contributing factors for this that also contribute to the persistence of child abuse. This program will reveal and resolve the breakdowns associated with instituting this mechanism, and build a national collecting agency to gather data from each state so that it can be compiled into an easy-to-navigate, legitimate, timely annual report card that gives us the most accurate facts possible on the numbers of children being abused, neglected, and murdered in our country each year.
Monthly Public Service Announcements are being created to ignite a conversation for the end of child abuse. This conversation is currently missing. Twelve Public Service Announcements will be created each year. Each one will be conveyed via television, radio, and every social networking structure available. The Public Service Announcements engage the public in an ongoing conversation for the end of child abuse and inspire people to take action to create projects that contribute to the end of child abuse.
The Leadership Training Program is an important program. To end child abuse, thousands of leaders must be working on this issue around the globe creating ideas and turning those ideas into reality. This program trains people in the community to be leaders and works with them to produce projects that contribute to the end of child abuse. Rainbird takes each leader them from conception to implementation to management, and finally completion, expansion, or maintenance of their project.
The 1,000 Mile Journey is an annual national fundraiser committed to building the conversation for the end of child abuse and creating a solid, national grass roots support base. This event empowers citizens across the country to get involved, and politicizes the issue of child abuse. It generates an ongoing relationship with the press and creates partnerships with local non-profits working on this issues. In addition to funding our own projects, each year, The Rainbird Foundation gifts a minimum of one scholarship to an exemplary local service organization whose committed to the end of child abuse.
